 | Alone and out of tune! |
| | Joe Buck, Jr. recorded Waitin' Around (named for a line in an Old 97's song) at Sound of Music Studio in Richmond. Prior to our session, a fire forced them to move and set up a temporary studio in another building. I thought this was a perfect atmosphere for making a rock record. There was no air conditioning and it was blazingly hot outside. We left the big window open during the entire session--even during vocal takes. I think you can hear a bus go by in one of the songs. |
| | Joe Buck, Jr. hadn't played or rehearsed in about 8 years prior to making Waitin' Around. We got together four times in the weeks preceding our studio date to learn the songs for the EP. |

| | Late night guitar solos. I'm a terrible lead guitar player. We saved the guitar solos on Waitin' Around until late at night when I was weary and didn't really care so much about how they turned out. It was a good strategy! |

 | More guitar stuff. |
| | Joe also sings and plays in "Slack Family", a bluegrass band (hence the shirt). |
| | Lyrics to "Victoria Ray" were written the day before the session began. I had to tape the lyric sheet to a mic stand to remember them. |
| | Recording at Sound of Music is pretty laid back. |
| | Listening to takes and trying to figure out which one is better. |

| | A lot of studio time is spent waiting and watching other people do things. Here, I passed the time entertaining a collection of mic stands. |
